Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce has entered the WorkChoices fray by saying he would consider Labor’s rollback of WorkChoices if Labor won the election.
"Anyone who says you vote something out without looking at it is disgracing the Senate. I’m saying I’ll look at it,” said Joyce. “The last thing that anybody should do is to start approving or not approving any legislation that is currently unseen.”
Joyce’s comments put the onus back on winning the Senate, where future battles will be fought over legislation. Minor parties such as the Greens and the Democrats have thrown their campaign efforts into winning Senate seats to gain the balance of power there, which they consider security against extreme laws from whichever party wins the lower house.
