A Sensis Business Index report has noted a significant drop in business confidence, attributed to the upcoming election. Report author Christena Singh says that the report is due to uncertainty about Australia’s next leader.
"Small businesses are telling us that their confidence has been impacted quite dramatically in the lead up to the election," she said. "The main factors influencing that are a potential change of government, with the key issues small businesses are looking at being industrial relations and economic management … they are concerned there might be some change there."
Confidence dropped to its lowest level in six years to 43 percent, a drop of 16 points. The report was based on a survey of 2,000 businesses.
