87% of people believe the government should offer incentives encouraging Aussie businesses to have staff work from home, according to a recent survey conducted by leading career building and networking site LinkMe.com.au
The majority of fulltime workers (68%) drive to their office with 30.3% spending almost an hour getting to work. The effect is the emission of thousands of tones of pollution each year.
CEO of LinkMe, Campbell Sallabank says: "These statistics show it’s time employers and governments worked together to come up with a solution.
"Employees finding work close to where they live or working form home, even as little as one day per week, would have a phenomenal impact on the environment as carbon emissions and traffic congestions would be greatly reduced.
"If governments offered tax relief for employers setting up remote access capabilities it would be a great incentive to encourage this reform.
"Employers have trouble determining whether their workers are going to abuse this freedom by completing personal chores or outings in work time.
"Trust needs to be earned before allowing workers to operate remotely but long term employees with professional responsibility usually become more productive and relaxed in this situation because they avoid hours spent commuting."
