Brisbane has emerged as a magnet for office support workers after closing the salary gap on Sydney and Melbourne.
The average starting wage for an office support worker in Brisbane is $40,100, reducing the gap between Sydney and Melbourne workers to just 16 percent, down from 23 percent last year. Brisbane competes favourably with Sydney and Melbourne because of its lower cost of living.
Queensland is already the state with the highest settlement of internal migrants, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Many of these migrants relocate to Brisbane, making it one of the fastest growing capital cities in Australia.
Office support recruitment company PKL Personnel notes that salaries and counter offers for office support positions have already risen in Sydney and Melbourne in response to the relocation pattern. The firm will open a Brisbane branch to serve the labour shift.
