Manufacturers may soon be able to access the latest cutting-edge technologies via the internet thanks to a $2.4 million Australian Government innovation grant.
Melbourne-based, Australian Manufacturing Technology Institute has been offered the Industry Cooperative Innovation Program grant to develop its LYNX project.
Australian Industry Minister, Ian Macfarlane, said the project will be a significant tool to help manufacturers keep abreast of what the rest of the world is doing.
"The internet service will enable the Institute's members throughout the manufacturing industry to connect to the latest technologies, methodologies and techniques," Mr Macfarlane said.
"It will give them the opportunity to take up and adapt any innovations early in their manufacturing processes.
"Some of our dynamic manufacturers are already in the forefront of the technologies being used in their sectors but there is always the possibility that they could pick up something that gives them even more of a competitive edge."
