Major retailers gather to discuss sustainable retailing

Some of Australia’s leading retailers will gather today at a NSW Government organised retail roundtable to discuss corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable retailing.

Major retailers such as Coles, David Jones, Darrell Lea, Myer, Westfield and Coca-Cola Amatil will come together to hear representatives from UK company Marks and Spencer discuss corporate social responsibility and sustainable retailing.

The first in a series of “thought leadership” discussions, the roundtable will look at how Marks & Spencer incorporated social responsibility into their planning process, from setting plans to be carbon neutral and cutting landfill waste, to promoting healthy lifestyles for customers and setting new standards in ethical trading; and how this can be applied to the Australian retail market.

According to Minister for State Development, Ian Macdonald, Marks & Spencer will “help accelerate the already growing phenomenon of CSR in Australian retailing.”
