Perth residents are calling for retail weekday trading hours to be extended to 9pm, according to the results of a new survey.
The Australian National Retailers Association (ANRA) survey of 500 Perth residents found that 70 percent supported extended weekday trading.
Over half of the respondents cited “convenience” as the reason for extended trading hours, whilst 48 percent said it would make Perth a modern city.
ANRA CEO Margy Osmond said Australians lead busy lives and relaxing trading hours will make life a lot easier for them.
However there is concern that extending trading hours will hurt small business retailers. Commenting on this, Osmond said: “I understand there is concern that extending weekday trading will hurt small businesses, however allowing larger retailers to be open longer will create more foot traffic and have a positive flow on effect for businesses.”
