Social networking sites Twitter and Facebook are back online after they became victims of a cyber attack overnight.
According to a post on Twitter written by co-founder Biz Stone, the social networking website was victim of a “denial of service attack”, a technique where hackers overwhelm a website’s servers with communications requests.
The site was down for more than two hours, but Twitter engineers were able to get it back online, and are continuing to monitor it.
Facebook was also experiencing problems and Facebook spokeswoman Brandee Barker said the company was looking into it and would have an update “as soon as possible.”
