Twitter users warned about latest round of spam

Symantec has today warned Twitter users to be on the look out for Koobface spam doing the rounds, in the form of a tweet.

The suspect tweets contain the following messages:

  • My home video 🙂
  • Watch my new private video! LOL 🙂
  • michaeljackson’ testament on youtube

Users who click on the links have had their accounts hacked into and used to further spread the virus. Once a user is infected it will send links to their followers and hence the infected link will come from someone they know.

Some of the TinyURLs point to the AdultFriendFinder Web site, while other URLs are directing users to a fake video website to lure users into downloading and running the file.

Twitter has taken action and suspended accounts that have been infected.

Symantec has urged users to protect themselves on Twitter and be wary when clicking on any links received in a tweet.
