Sydney Homeless Connect launches – wants your help

Sydney Homeless Connect officially launches tomorrow, with the support of the City of Sydney, the Centre for Volunteering NSW and Homelessness NSW.

Sydney Homeless ConnectSydney Homeless Connect’s launch coincides with the annual one day event, also called Sydney Homeless Connect, an event providing the homeless with a positive day to remember. The purpose of the event is to bring together as many essential services as possible, under a single roof, for a single day to assist some of the underprivileged people in NSW gain access to services that may help take them onto the path out of homelessness.

“Homelessness, by its very nature, is a problem without borders.  We are hosting this event today because I believe the City shares a moral responsibility to prevent, reduce, and manage these issues,” said Ms Moore yesterday.

“The City operates, funds or coordinates a number of services such as the Homelessness Brokerage program, the Complex Needs Coordination project, the Woolloomooloo Integrated Service Hub and the Homelessness Persons Information Centre line in order to lend a hand to those in need.

“Our focus for this day is action and outcomes; not just awareness,” said Andrew Everingham, Director for Sydney Homeless Connect.  “We want these people to come along, get connected to what they need, and have a really great day doing it.”

“All of us at Sydney Homeless Connect are truly overwhelmed by the generosity and support received to date,” said Mr Everingham.

“We are always on the look out for more individuals or corporates to volunteer their expertise. We would love to hear from you if you would like to be a part of this amazing cause.”

Sydney Homeless Connect is looking for corporate supporters or individuals with expertise in the areas of housing and employment assistance, doctors, dentists, free clothing and footwear, pet care, internet and phone services, books, legal services and counselling.
