SMEs say ETS is not the right solution
A new survey has found that the majority of small to medium enterprises (SMEs) believe that the Federal Government’s emissions trading scheme (ETS) in its current form is not the right solution.
A survey conducted by SME Boardroom last week found that one third of SMEs support the ETS, one third are against the ETS and one third are unsure.
For those against the ETS, 51.7 percent believe it will have a negative impact on their business, in the form of increased costs and taxes.
However, this may be due to a lack of understanding about how the ETS will work and how funds will be spent; with 60.9 percent not sure whether they will make changes to their business as a result of the introduction of the ETS.
When asked what recommendations they would like to be made to the ETS, the majority said to delay the introduction and to provide more information to the public to enable them to better understand the scheme.
