As swine flu spreads across the country, with up to 70 confirmed cases in Australia alone, retailers are being advised to take proactive precautions to guard against the spread of swine flu in stores and shopping centres.
The Australian Retailers Association has asked retailers to implement thorough and stringent health precautions in their store and among staff, including the distribution of hand sanitising pump packs to all staff, and ensuring they wash their hands regularly if dealing with cash.
Scott Driscoll, the association executive director, said that as an industry, they are doing all they can to “look after our staff and also not add to the spread of the virus in the greater community ourselves.”
Driscoll has urged the Government to provide business groups with more information about how to prepare themselves for a possible spread, claiming they have received no communication from the Government.
