Christmas window displays traditionally tend to be the domain of the major department stores.
However this year shopfront retailers in the Bay Street shopping precinct of Port Melbourne are using the seasonal opportunity to attract shoppers.
In a first for the area, a consortium of 150 traders have joined forces to deliver 4.5 kilometres of window displays throughout the shopping precinct.
The initiative is set to launch on November 28, with Swiss display artist Roz Zweifel overseeing the project which is taking seven people, three weeks to install.
The window display cost of almost $30,000 has been self-funded by the 150 traders.
Port Melbourne Business Association (PMBA) President Paul Littmann said it was positive to see traders united in the common goal of attracting more Christmas shoppers to the precinct.
