Little guys compete for national business award

For the first time in the 17-year history of the Telstra Business Awards, three micro-businesses (with less than five staff) are in contention for this year’s National Telstra Business Award.

Proving that some of Australia’s smallest businesses have what it takes to compete against their slightly larger counterparts, NSW Business of the Year Publisher Textiles, Queensland Business of the Yea tourstogo.com.au and the Victorian Business of the Year The COACH Program are in the running for the big award, recognised for their exceptional business innovation, leadership and strategy.

Telstra Business Group managing director Deena Shiff said 2009 had been a remarkable year for the Telstra Business Awards, with many smaller firms demonstrating an exceptional commitment to leadership, innovation, customer relationship management and strategic planning.

“The big question is, will 2009 be the first year a micro business is crowned Australia’s best small business?,” Shiff said.

The winners will be announced at the national awards ceremony in Sydney on Thursday 20 August.
