LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network has rapidly grown in popularity since it’s introduction in 2003, with the site now boasting over 48 million members, and 875,000 members in Australia alone, new research has revealed.
According to research compiled by LinkedIn, Australia is one of LinkedIn’s fastest growing regions, with over 875,000 members, and over 1,000 companies using LinkedIn Talent Advantage to hire employees.
The research also found that telcos and banks are most likely to take advantage of the business network site with Telstra, IBM, Optus, National Australia Bank and ANZ listed as the top five companies in Australia with the most employees on LinkedIn. In addition, the top five positions for Australians on LinkedIn include: business owner, director, manager, consultant and project manager.
When broken down by industry, those in the information technology and services industry in Australia seem to frequent the site the most, followed by financial services, computer software, telecommunications, marketing and advertising, accounting, education management, human resources, banking and management consulting.
According to a LinkedIn spokesperson, the networking site anticipates member numbers will hit 50 million by the end of the month.
