Getting to the top page of Google search rankings is tricky, but not impossible says Word of Mouth On the Web director, Fiona Adler.
According to Adler businesses need to first understand the way in which Google works and ranks sites before launching an all out assault to jump to the top of the page.
“It’s important to understand that Google favours the most relevant content from the most credible websites. This means that you should ensure your business is listed on other websites that are well optimised, and alongside commonly used keywords that are pertinent to your business.”
Adler says businesses must also understand the keywords their customers use when trying to find their site.
“When prospective customers search on Google, they use conversational terms that are unlikely to appear in the promotional copy of business websites.”
