Coffee drinkers unite to fight global poverty

Cappuccino drinkers are being given the opportunity to help in the fight against global poverty with Gloria Jean’s ‘Cappuccino for a Cause’.

Opportunity International Australia, a non-profit organisation that uses a business approach to solve the problem of poverty, is asking the public to indulge in a ‘Cappuccino for a Cause’ at Gloria Jean’s Coffees stores on the 16 and 17 October, to help raise AUD$50,000 for people living in poverty.

On these days, 50 cents from every cappuccino or iced cappuccino sold at any Gloria Jean’s Coffees store will be donated to Opportunity International Australia. The funds raised will be used to help people out of poverty by providing them with microfinance loans to start a business, earn an income and provide for their families.

The event coincides with the United Nations’ International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, held annually on 17 October.
