Almost 50 percent of employees are afraid of losing their jobs, as a result of building recessions concerns, found a Talent2 survey.
“Over half of the respondents were in the workforce during the last major recession in Australia during the early 1990s,” says John Banks of Talent2. “So it is understandable that the prospect of a repeat of those difficult times is unnerving employees.”
Of the respondents, 44.5 percent don’t believe their employers can survive a recession without staff dismissals.
“It is important to remember that sectoral downturns are not the same as a full-blown recession and the jury still seems to be out on whether Australia is heading this way in 2009,” says Banks. “Employees should make this distinction and take some heart from it.”
