A group assignment marked the beginning of an idea that would see Lior Rauchberger become co-founder and Director of Nuvo-Solutions Group.
As part of his Masters in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Rauchberger teamed up with Paul McMurtrie to create a business plan that offered clients total electrical and automation solutions across all areas of the home and office. It was during this time that the pair realised there was a large gap in the market for a company that offered a totally seamless service for everything technology related for home and business. So, in 2003 they created the company Urban Intelligence to fill this gap, backed by McMurtrie’s small electrical contracting business Nuvo Solutions.
The pair focused on developing a company that allowed clients to deal with the same people for both their home and business needs, says Rauchberger.
“We had the idea of developing a company where clients only need to deal with one technology team from one company for cabling, home/business automation, audiovisual, internet/ computer, security and energy management. We’d design, develop and install technology across these areas, rather than clients needing many different subcontractors.”
The success of this simple notion saw the company expand to include a team of 30 office staff and 100 technicians, turning over more than $35 million annually. Nuvo Solutions now manages the electrical work for blue chip companies while Urban Intelligence manages automation, security and energy management for residential projects. More recently Corporate Intelligence has been added to focus on business automation, energy management, security and audiovisual solutions for corporate clients.
Along with this idea of seamless service, the pair stressed the idea that the technology installed should be easy to operate and understand.
“We decided very early on that we wanted all our technicians to provide a seamless service including educating clients about how to use the technology. It’s really important to explain the technology so clients are comfortable using it. This is a key reason people resist adopting the technology. If they think it’s too hard, they won’t touch it,” believes Rauchberger.
Nuvo Solutions Group now has a string of high end clients under their belt including Crown Towers, Cabrini Hospital, BHP Biliton and the MCG redevelopment. On the residential side (Urban Intelligence) has designed automation systems in high-end homes in Portsea, Toorak, Hawthorn, and more recently a completely sustainable fit-out for a home in Main Ridge.
