Flexible working and employee engagement adds up

Sustaining a happy and satisfied workforce through effective engagement should be at the top of any organisation’s priority list.

However, what comprises effective employee engagement that spurs on positive and productive staff members, appears to be changing as quickly as the technology enabling it.

In the past, workplace satisfaction may have been driven by engaging staff with a certain size of financial package or bonus as well as junkets and freebies to drive loyalty from your employees. But for today’s workforce, satisfaction is increasingly driven by autonomy for employees to complete jobs on their own terms combined with the ability to achieve a better work life balance.

So how do employers look to increase employee engagement to drive productivity in today’s world?

Arming a workforce with new technologies for flexible working is both empowering and a highly effective productivity growth driver. This infographic from Vodafone shows 75 per cent of those surveyed agree that flexible working boosts job satisfaction and over 70 per cent report an improvement in work life balance. One method to achieve this is by simply talking to your staff to uncover the level of mobility and flexibility they require in their day-to-day work life and provide the level of BYOD technology they require to achieve a positive engagement.

Without the correct work environment, what else might you lose apart from employee morale? Research also shows that boosting morale can also boost the bottom line. Dynamic Business has recently reported how investing in your staff should be viewed as an investment in your business and that a quality employee wellbeing program can yield an ROI of $10,000 per employee.

A recent Canon survey of over 500 Australian SMB decision makers also showed that when questioned on workplace mobility, over a quarter of decision-makers estimate they could be losing between $5,000 and $20,000 per year due to poor management of information when employees are out of the office.

What is the tipping point in which implementing a mobility solution became a must have productivity tool? Now is a great time for small businesses to look towards upgrading their technology equipment and solutions as the ATO has increased the small business instant asset write-off threshold from $1,000 to $6,500.

SMBs are often time poor with ever increasing pressures to improve productivity. You must engage with employees to equip them with the right technology and business processes to work autonomously from any location to improve productivity and job satisfaction. Does your mobile strategy add up?
