Australians are doing the majority of their Christmas shopping during office hours this year.
That’s according to data released by online retailer Kogan, which analysed thousands of transactions over the past month in the lead-up to Christmas.
It found that the majority of transactions occur between 9am and 5pm from Monday-Friday – over 55% of online shopping is done during these hours.
Similar to bricks and mortar stores, which sometimes experience a rush right on closing, the hours between 4pm and 5pm was the most popular, with over 8% of daily transactions occurring in that hour.
Ruslan Kogan, founder of the online retailer, said one reason for shopping during work hours is to avoid the battle of the crowds and trying to find a parking space. He also believes bosses shouldn’t be too worried, though not all would agree.
“Bosses shouldn’t be worried about these results. Instead of heading down to the shopping centre, Aussies are jumping online for a few minutes, allowing them to quickly get back to work,” he said.
