The switch is on for young and old. The Federal Government’s $6.7 million advertising campaign to educate consumers about digital TV and encourage people to make the switch before the 2013 deadline; is set to begin this week on free-to-air TV and radio.
Speaking at a digital TV conference in Sydney yesterday, executive director of Digital Swtichover Taskforce, Andy Townend, said that the Government’s ad campaign will raise awareness of the benefits of making the switch to digital TV.
“For most people getting ready for digital will be a simple and inexpensive task but it is important that all Australians are well informed to make the switch.
“From this week a campaign will begin to help Australia get ready for digital. There is no reason for people to wait to experience the benefits.”
In order to make the switchover easier, the campaign will include point-of-sale information at retail outlets, an equipment labelling and logo scheme to help consumers identify which television sets are digital-ready in store, along with a website www.digitalready.gov.au featuring video clips and a national information line to respond to switchover queries.
Between now and 31 December, 2013, digital TV will be progressively rolled out across Australia.
