Research conducted by recruitment specialists Robert Walters has shown that professional workers are turning to the public sector as the more desirable working environment over the private sector.
In an online web poll, professionals from over 17 countries were asked whether they would consider moving from private to public sector employment. Globally, of 2,785 respondents, 66 percent said they would be ‘more than happy to take on a role in the public sector’.
Candidates from Australia were the most enthusiastic about the change (78 percent), with Luxembourg following closely behind (77 percent).
James Nicholson, Managing Director of Robert Walters, Australia believes that in a time when job security is key, workers feel the public sector is a more ‘safer’ option than private.
“Global economic conditions mean that the private sector employment market is volatile, at a time when job security is more important than ever… an increasing number of candidates are willing to consider public sector roles. They are attracted by benefits that not only include job stability, but also more flexible working arrangements, competitive salaries and a good work/life balance.”
