Virgin Blue prepares for recovery with more seats
Virgin Blue chief executive Brett Godfrey revealed last week a plan to include more seats on Virgin Blue flights, along with the possibility of splitting aircraft cabins into two, reports The Australian.
According to the reports, the project would see premium and “classic” economy seats before the exit rows and low-cost seating at the back of the aircraft. The plan would include putting in extra seas after the emergency exit creating a “virtual” third class at the back of the plane.
Godfrey reportedly told a National Aviation Press Club lunch in Sydney that it was a “possibility.”
“Just by putting an extra row of seats in the back lowers our costs overnight by 3 percent, so that’s a good start,” he said.
When asked about the financial crisis, Godfrey said Virgin Blue was “positioning itself for just this time of the market to take advantage of it.”
