More than half of holidaying Australians check their emails while on their break, and almost 40 percent of people do work other than emailing while on holiday, according to the Holiday Habits Report, conducted by Nielsen for accommodation specialists Stayz.
These figures show that despite claiming they go on holiday to get away from it all, Australian workers and business owners alike still struggle to find work/life balance.
“On one hand, Aussies know they need a holiday to relax and unwind from the stresses of everyday life; however, with a high proportion of people working while on holidays, holiday-goers are putting themselves back into the stressful lifestyle they’re trying to escape from,” said Ali Cassim, Stayz group marketing director.
Of those who work on their holiday, close to one in five argue about it with their partner, indicated the report, adding to stress.
But the findings weren’t all glum. According to the report, three out of 10 holidayers have found romance once out of the office 16 percent of which married or moved in together.
“It’s not surprising that the percentage of holiday-goers finding romance is so high. When people go on holidays, they tend to be more relaxed and willing to put themselves in situations that they wouldn’t normally,” said Cassim.
Stayz also found that 53.5 percent of people on holiday undertook adventure activities, 49.9 percent disregarded their budget and 39.4 percent drank more than usual.
