At a speech in Melbourne last night, RBA governor Glenn Stevens emphasised the challenges that lie ahead for Australia and how we must do our best to ensure that “the road to recovery will connect to the road to prosperity.”
His speech, ‘The Road to Prosperity’ outlined the challenges that lie ahead, but he was optimistic that Australia will emerge from the crisis relatively unscathed.
“The road to prosperity will have some bumps, twists and turns… but it is the road to the right destination,” he said.
He warned that there would be risks on the road to prosperity and the major task at hand for Australia was to manage the recovery so that the return to growth was relatively “free of serious imbalances”.
“There is still a business cycle….and we will need to continue investing in all the things that helped us get through the recent episode,” he said.
