After months of speculation, the hype surrounding the Apple tablet has reached fever pitch as they announced plans to release a “major new product” tomorrow [today in local time], but refused to release any further details. Thought to have a 10-inch touchscreen with finger-sensitive controls similar to an iPod touch, and wireless internet capability, the tablet is expected to be called the iSlate, iPad or iTablet according to different sources.
Apple chief executive officer Steve Jobs yesterday seemed to confirm the rumours, saying Apple would release a significant product. “The new products we are planning to release this year are very strong, starting this week with a major new product that we’re really excited about,” he said.
Designed to be larger than an iPhone but smaller than a notebook, the device could be used to view the web on the run, to run iPhone apps such as games and social networking programs, and would feature an on-screen keyboard rather than physical keys.
