The national winners of the Telstra Business Awards were announced at a lavish ceremony this week, with green businesses strongly represented among the finalists.
State winners, their families and colleagues, sponsors and members of the media attended the national finals for the Telstra Business Awards. In a grandiose ceremony held at Sydney’s Convention Centre, state winners came together to celebrate their successes in small business over the past year.
The big winners of the night were BikeExchange.com.au, the online one-stop-shop for all bikes and bike accessories, who were named Telstra Australian business of the year. The website, which recently hit a monthly milestone of a million hits, was also named the MYOB Small Business of the year.
Other businesses celebrating this week included Sitemed who were named winners of the HTC Start-Up Award. Sitemed are an onsite health services provider, mainly in the mining and construction sectors.
Shima Wasabi won the News Limited Micro Business Award. The small business from Tasmania produces and sells the vegetable and condiment wasabi to the food service industry. They now have the largest wasabi crop in the southern hemisphere.
The Commonwealth Bank Medium Business Award went to UON Pty Ltd from WA, a company that provides solutions for the supply, management and control of site power, air and water, with a particular focus on the mining industry.
Finally the Telstra Regional Award was won by South Australian business John Nitschke Drilling. The company now has a modern fleet of 17 rigs used for coal exploration, coal seam gas, iron ore, mine service holes and water well drilling across Australia.
Green businesses based on recycling, measuring emissions and a 100 percent carbon neutral landscaping and plants business were also among the finalists.
