ACCC to run free product safety seminars to explain Consumer Law reforms

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) will run free product safety seminars for businesses to explain the product safety system changes under the Australian Consumer Law reforms.

ACCC mandatory product safety reporting requirement“The free seminar is an excellent way for all businesses in the supply chain, large or small, to get direct information on exactly what product safety changes are coming up and how these changes will impact their business,” ACCC deputy chairman Peter Kell said.

“The ACL reforms are aimed at providing Australia with a modern, flexible and responsive national framework for consumer protection.

“It’s critical that businesses are aware of their responsibilities and the support available to them during this time of change,” he said.

The ACCC product safety breakfast seminar will be held at the Hilton Hotel, Sydney on 12 November at 7.30 a.m., the ACCC will also be broadcasting the seminar over the internet with a live webinar via www.productsafety.gov.au/mandatoryreporting. A video recording will also be available for those unable to attend the product safety breakfast in person.

At the seminar, ACCC deputy chairman Mr Kell will discuss the product safety provisions of the ACL and related reforms, focussing particularly on mandatory reporting, and the recall guidelines. In addition, Mr Kell will discuss the ACCC’s recently issued new recall guidelines for suppliers at the breakfast seminar.

Businesses can register for the seminar or live webinar via www.productsafety.gov.au/mandatoryreporting. The recording will be available later from the same site.
