Online job ads in decline: ANZ

The number of online job advertisements declined in June, shrinking to less than half the amount of a year ago, according to a research conducted by ANZ.

In a clear sign that businesses are curbing their hiring plans, online job ads are 51.4 percent lower than those of a year ago.

ANZ head of Australian economics Warren Hogan said June’s figures were ”disappointing” but not as low as expected.

Hogan said that although “hiring intentions by Australian business are still weak”; the country has not seen the levels of job losses predicted at the onset of the global financial crisis.

Despite the fall in online job ads, newspaper advertisements grew by 0.9 percent in June.
