Almost half of Australia’s small and medium business leaders believe that the Federal Government is acting too slowly on climate change, a new survey has revealed.
Results of the combined AFS and Net Balance quarterly SME survey show that 43 percent of SMEs surveyed believe Australia is acting too slowly on climate change, 38 percent said about right while 19 percent believe Australia is acting too quickly.
The Climate Institute CEO John Conner, said this is a “clear mandate for action from our business leaders to political leaders.”
The results also reveal that the vote of many SMEs in the next election will be dependent on the Government’s achievements in environmental sustainability, with 40 percent saying the impact this single issue has on their business will decide on how they vote in the next election.
AFS executive chairman Drew Le Grand, said it is clear that business owners want action on climate change.
“The owners and managers of these businesses want to take action on climate change and believe their actions will have a significant impact but there is a shortage of guidance from industry groups and government,” he said.
