Employers not buying into future skills shortage
A new survey suggests that employers are not buying into the idea that there will be a skills shortage once the market recovers.
A survey of 310 employers conducted by Aequalis Consulting found that more than 70 percent of employers have not focused on retaining good staff this year, while 50 percent do not believe there will be a skills shortage once the market recovers.
The results conflict with earlier findings by Aequalis that employees are not satisfied and would look for new work opportunities once the market recovers.
“These findings are a concern: experts are predicting a skills shortage once the market recovers, yet 50 percent of employers in our survey do not believe there will be a skills shortage,” says Aequalis consulting director Simon Boulton.
“Employers may soon find themselves looking to hire in a market that’s increasingly competitive and where employees are looking to move the second the market turns.”
