Australian businesses are starting to take steps to reduce their carbon emissions, but are still slightly confused about their rights and responsibilities under the Federal Government’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS).
A report by the Australian Industry Group and KPMG has found that over 60 percent of businesses have take steps to reduce their carbon footprint, but only 15 percent were confident that they understood the legislation.
Ai Group chief executive Heather Ridout said that while it is good to see businesses are becoming more conscious of their effect on the environment, the majority are still confused about the scheme and its impacts.
“Businesses are not yet well informed about the Commonwealth Government’s proposed CPRS. There is clearly a great deal more that needs to be done before we can assume business is adequately prepared for the scheme and its impacts.”
