An area in south-west Brisbane, Queensland, is determined to lure away businesses from Melbourne and Sydney in a battle of the buck.
Greater Springfield is planning a conversion from a greenfields site to a community with intent on building a 390ha CBD featuring global businesses.
Launching the We Mean Business campaign, developers revealed a survey of business leaders that found they would prefer to move their operations to south-east Queensland over Melbourne or Sydney.
Backing the report, the Springfield Land Corporation announced up to $500,000 in incentives to new businesses, including such perks as free rent, payment of payroll tax, university study and golf memberships.
The survey showed 47.3 per cent of business leaders preferred south-east Queensland over Melbourne (18.5 per cent) and Sydney (15 per cent).
Business leaders cited a cheaper lease (28 per cent), followed by custom-built premises (16 per cent), proximity to public transport (15.5 per cent) and location within a business hub (14.3 per cent) as reasons to move.
“We have one message for the rest of Australia and the rest of the world—Greater Springfield is ready to do business, we mean business, we want your business,” Springfield Land Corporation chairman Maha Sinnathamby said at the launch.
