The race to find Australia’s best business blog is on, as the Sydney Writers’ Centre 2012 Best Australian Blogs Competition opens this month.
The competition, now in its second year, recognises blogs of any size.
“The Australian blogosphere has really come of age over the last few years. Heading into the 2012 competition, we’re looking at a vibrant and diverse community of bloggers who are better networked with advertisers and more engaged with online readers than every before,” competition coordinator Rose Powell said.
Entries open from Thursday 15 March 2012, and nominations can be made in five categories. As well as finding Australia’s best business blog, the competition will also be judging commentary blogs, parenting blogs, personal or lifestyle blogs, and writing or reading blogs.
Nikki Parkinson, last year’s winner, has praised the effect the competition had on her life, and the opportunities it gave her.
“The impact on my blog, my business, and my life has been huge. From that first day, it cemented my credibility for myself, other bloggers, industry and anything to do with the digital media space,” she said.
After her win, Parkinson, who runs the blog Styling You, became a full time blogger and began a blog consultancy.
Some 570 blogs were entered in the 2011 competition, with over 13,350 votes cast in the People’s Choice Award.
As well as over $15,000 in writing courses for winners and finalists, there are also five special awards to celebrate outstanding posts and bloggers with potential.
The judging panel includes Robert Gerrish of Flying Solo; Marina Go, editor and publisher; Brenda Gaddi, the founder and director of the Digital Parents Network; Angela Meyer, a leading Australian literary blogger; and Valerie Khoo, the managing director of the Sydney Writers’ Centre.
Winners will be announced on Thursday 10 May 2012.
