As a small business owner I struggle like most people to get everything done. And one of the many things on my to do list is backing-up my computer files. Fortunately, having an Apple Mac I get reminders from the Time Machine application when I haven’t backed up my computer for 10 days, which prompts me to do it.
Best practice is to have your files backed-up daily, and to have them stored off-site in a secure location. Problem is many people only back-up to an external drive, which lives in the same location as their computer, so if there’s an office fire (or flood), a break-in or some other disaster, the back-up is destroyed along with your computer or server leaving your business with nothing.
The good news is there are a growing number of online services available that will back-up your files daily (or even more frequently if you desire), and store it in a secure online location that you can access anywhere you have an Internet connection.
If you don’t backup your data on a regular basis, or you keep it on-site, here are 7 online services you should investigate:
There’s probably more around but these should get you started. Which one is right for you will depend on the number of computers (or servers) you have, their location, the type of operating system, the location you backup to, and of course the volume of data to be backed up.
The best part is, they’re all relatively cheap, and so you get peace of mind without having to break the bank. I certainly sleep a little easier knowing it’s one less thing I need to worry about.
