How to get noticed in the blogosphere

You’ve started blogging for your business, but how do you let people know that it’s out there? Here are four simple ways to get your blog noticed.

As more businesses start blogging it becomes more difficult to get noticed, which can lead to frustration when your good quality content isn’t attracting the interest you anticipated.

It’s important to accept from the beginning that a blog will take time to establish. Additionally, merely publishing your blog will not get results – other activities must support the blog gaining exposure. The following for actions can provide promotional activity for a blog:

1. Social media

Use your social media sites to promote your blog. Facebook is one of the largest sites and Google is now indexing Twitter pages so these sites are great avenues to expose your blog. Each time a blog piece is written, post a link in your networks and cross promote subtly. The aim is to encourage people to take a look, not turn them off with over the top promotion.

2. Comment on other blogs

Do some research and find blogs that relate to your business. Search for ones that are interesting to read! Start by looking at these on a regular basis and aim to leave useful comments if appropriate. Be creative with comments and provide value to the post. This way individuals who read this and are interested in what you say can click on your profile and hopefully the blog.

3. Guest blogging

Find out whether any of the blogs that you regularly look at have guest blogging. If they do, use this opportunity to write a guest blog as it is a great way to expand your image. Try to make an impact and reach out to communities that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to reach. You may also like to consider having guest bloggers for your blog. If they have a decent enough following this will be a great promotion.

4. Linking

Link building is a major reason for the blog becoming successful. Firstly, the more you link to other websites or blogs, the higher in a search rank you will appear. Secondly, the more you link, the more likely others will link you. This is how blogging works – the blogshere is the key not the blog itself. Thirdly, aim for a keyword to add to your blog post. Target one which is getting searched hundreds of times a month. Obviously it will need to be relevant to your content so that it can blend in, as this kind of linking supports SEO.

Blogging is a long-term process; it is much more time consuming than having a Facebook page or Twitter account so make sure you are committed for the long term. By promoting your blog over a period of months, a community can be slowly established. Eventually it will be this community’s online word of mouth that will market the blog if it provides valuable and meaningful connection to the group.
