Mark Bouris shares networking tips as Boa App launches ‘Chapters’ for biz owners

Networking has long been a cornerstone of business success, and no one understands this better than renowned entrepreneur and Yellow Brick Road founder, Mark Bouris.

As a passionate advocate for meaningful connections, Bouris is lending his support to Boa App – an innovative and free-to-join networking platform transforming the way Australian business owners connect and collaborate.

At the heart of Boa’s mission is the desire to create productive networking opportunities for business owners. This year, Boa is rolling out a series of local networking ‘chapters’ designed to foster supportive communities, spark fresh ideas, and tackle challenges together.

Introducing Boa’s inner circle

The first of these chapters, known as the Inner Circle, will officially launch on 19 February in Sydney at the iconic Bondi Icebergs. Attended by a roster of high-profile guests – including Zoe Marshall (arise), Jane Lu (Showpo / Shark Tank), Sally Obermeder (SWIISH), Jeremy Cabral, and Fred Schebesta (Finder) – the Inner Circle promises to set a new standard for networking in Australia.

Each chapter will consist of a small group of like-minded business owners with access to monthly events, exclusive resources, and a private in-app community. “The Inner Circle is just the beginning,” says Kirsten Scott, Boa App’s General Manager. “We’re thrilled to introduce these chapters because we know they’ll help business owners in countless ways – from building authentic connections to solving problems and driving success.”

Seeking local chapter leaders

Boa App is also on the lookout for business owners to lead local chapters as presidents. “We understand how busy our members are, so we’ve made sure the chapters are not just impactful but also enjoyable,” adds Scott.

A mission to democratize networking

Networking apps are booming, with the global professional networking market expected to surpass AUD 100 billion by 2030. Yet, as Bouris points out, many Australian business owners still lack access to quality networking opportunities.

“Networking in Australia has traditionally been reserved for the elite. Boa App is changing that,” says Bouris. “We’re breaking down barriers to make premium networking free and accessible for everyone, no matter their business size, background, or gender. Australia is a land of opportunity, and Boa is bringing that ethos back.”

The platform is the brainchild of business networking entrepreneur Daniel Hakim, founder and CEO of Club of United Business (CUB). With its innovative approach, Boa App is poised to become a game-changer in the Australian business ecosystem.

Mark Bouris’ top 10 tips for effective networking

  1. Show up and be present
Attend events, stay off your phone, and focus on engaging with others. Networking is a skill you build by being in the room.
  2. Lead with curiosity
Instead of diving into your elevator pitch, ask thoughtful questions. Genuine interest builds authentic connections.
  3. Know your value
Be clear about what you bring to the table and articulate it confidently. A sharp, simple pitch makes a lasting impression.
  4. Focus on relationships, not transactions
Networking is about building meaningful, long-term connections – not chasing quick wins.
  5. Listen more than you talk
The best networkers are great listeners. Show engagement by asking follow-up questions and letting others share their story.
  6. Follow up with purpose
After an event, send a message or arrange a coffee catch-up to strengthen the connection.
  7. Be a connector
Build trust by helping others. Whether it’s an opportunity, an introduction, or an idea, adding value to others strengthens relationships.
  8. Maintain a strong online presence
Ensure your LinkedIn and social profiles reflect your professional persona. Many connections will check your digital footprint after meeting.
  9. Be consistent
Networking isn’t a one-off activity. Show up regularly, stay engaged, and keep adding value – growth will follow.
  10. Be yourself
Authenticity is key. People connect with people, not titles. Relax, be genuine, and let your personality shine.
