Google has unveiled a new magazine-style online news reader called ‘Fast Flip’, allowing users to quickly browse through news stories from the websites of Google’s three dozen partners.
Google launched the Fast Flip at the TechCrunch 50 technology conference in San Franciso, comparing the website to flipping through the pages of a magazine.
“Like a print magazine, Fast Flip lets you browse sequentially through bundles of recent news, headlines and popular topics, as well as feeds from individual top publishers,” Fast Flip developer Krishna Bharat, a Google engineer, said in a blog post. “As the name suggests, flipping through content is very fast, so you can quickly look through a lot of pages until you find something interesting.”
Fast Flip allows readers to browse stories by topic, by publication or by ‘most viewed,’ ‘most popular’ or even ‘recommended.’ It shows only the first page of a story and users who want to read more have to click through to the website of the host publication.
For the moment, Fast Flip is still a ‘Google Labs’ experiment, but can be accessible at fastflip.googlelabs.com
