The Geelong Investment and Innovation Fund will create some 37 new jobs in the Geelong region, thanks to a partnership between the Federal and Victorian governments and Ford Australia.
Federal Member for Corio Richard Marles announced late last week that two Geelong businesses, Breakwater’s Farm Foods Retail Services and Sweeney Todd, would receive a combined total of $600,000 in grants.
The funding will be put towards improving their businesses and generating additional jobs for locals.
Breakwater’s Farm Foods Retail Services will put its $280, 000 grant towards the upgrade of its processing and packaging lines, with the expectation of creating 18 new full time jobs over the next year. Whilst Sweeney Todd, a family-owned medical waste service company, will put its $320,000 grant towards a new steam treatment plant, with the aim of creating 19 new full time jobs over the next year.
“Both businesses will add the diversity of Geelong’s regional economy, create sustainable employment opportunities and provide sound platforms for future growth of the businesses, nationally and internationally,” State Member for South Barwon Andrew Katos said.
The Geelong Investment and Innovation Fund is helping 23 businesses in the Geelong region to create an additional 1,024 jobs and generate over $100 million in further investment for the region.
