Federal Opposition leader Tony Abbott has today announced his new front bench with some surprising results. Most notably, Shadow Small Business Minister Steven Ciobo has been dumped and replaced by Sustainable Development Spokesman Bruce Billson.
Ciobo will now take over the newly formed Ministry of Sport and Youth, to be classed under the education portfolio, which will still be led by Christopher Pyne.
Billson comes from a business background, with a bachelor of business from RMIT, a master’s degree in business leadership and is a former small business owner.
Other changes include the appointment of Nationals senator Barnaby Joyce as Finance Spokesman, and Tony Smith promoted from his role as Assistant Treasury Spokesman to the Shadow Communications Ministry.
Abbott said the new team is “balanced.”
“This is a campaigning team. This isn’t a team of shadows that will sit in the offices shuffling paper, this is a team of shadows that will be hitting the roads right across Australia,” he said.
