Facebook has finally launched its iPad app, which developers say delivers the full Facebook experience to right to users’ fingertips.

“Many of you have been asking about Facebook for iPad,” Facebook mobile engineer Leon Dubinsky said.

“Today, it’s finally here. With the iPad app, you get the full Facebook experience, right at your fingertips. It’s a fun, colorful way to keep up with friends, share photos, chat and more.”

Before now, iPad users have been forced to use third party apps to access Facebook on their tablet device, meaning the experience didn’t quite match that of Facebook on smartphones or on the web. The new application will mean greater ease of use for consumer as well as business use, as it more closely mirrors the experience found online.

The Facebook iPad app offers the following features:

  • A hands-on experience: You can use your fingertips to scroll through your News Feed. Swipe the screen to page through albums and pinch pictures to zoom in.
  • Larger, better photos: Facebook says its iPad app makes photos bigger and easier to flip through, like a real photo album.
  • Navigate anywhere, fast: Users games, apps, groups and lists are in the left-hand menu, so they don’t have to search around to find what they use most. Messages and notifications are at the top of every screen, so users can respond to friends and keep up with important updates—without losing their place.
  • Chat, games and other features The app also allows users to chat with friends or play games and use apps in full-screen mode. They can also watch high-res videos inline, record HD video and stream to Airplay devices.

The Facebook iPad app is available for download now from the iTunes store, for free.
