Australia’s tourism industry is set for yet another gloomy year, according to the latest quarterly Tourism Industry Sentiment Survey.
The survey revealed that only 45 percent of tourism-related businesses expect a recovery in the second half of next year. According to Tourism and Transport Forum head Chris Brown, tourism conditions would “remain depressed for longer than earlier expected.”
Business events and luxury travel have been hardest hit, while the backpacking sector and budget holidays performed well.
There was also some positive news for staff, with only 32 percent of businesses saying they would axe jobs, down from 56 percent in the previous survey.
