Australia Post is seeking to increase the price of the basic postage stamp by five cents, in a move that will add $136 million to consumers and businesses each year.
The decision to increase the stamp price from 55 cents to 60 comes less than a year after a similar hike.
Australia post has blamed rapid growth in areas such as western Sydney, southeast Melbourne, southeast Queensland and parts of Western Australia for the increase in price.
‘Our history shows we only seek an increase to continue providing equitable access to basic letter services for all Australians no matter where they live,’ Australia Post’s Allan Robinson said in a statement.
