A survey released yesterday by Essential Research regarding the Federal Budget has revealed that Australians are generally mixed in their reviews about the effect the budget will have on them, and how effective the Government’s measures on tax cuts and emissions trading will be.
The survey found that 38 percent believe the Federal Budget will be bad for them personally, while 21 percent believe it will have no impact.
Many are also sceptical about the Government’s planned tax cuts for the wealthy, with 49 believing that the Government should defer tax cuts for high income earners in light of the current economic climate; while 35 percent still want the Government to honour their election promise by introducing the tax cuts from July 1 as planned.
On the topic of the highly debated emissions trading scheme, many approve of the Government’s recent changes to the scheme (49 percent), which includes delaying the introduction until 2011, reducing the cost of carbon emissions, and setting higher targets for reduction if other countries do the same; while 31 percent totally disapprove of the delay.
