The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has estimated that there are as many as 800,000 taxpayers that are eligible for the $900 tax bonus but have yet to submit a tax return for last year.
With stimulus payments flooding into accounts this month and last, the ATO have distributed 6.5 million tax bonus payments already, with a further 1.3 million expected to be paid over the next week.
But there are still many taxpayers who are yet to file a tax return for last year and therefore have not been able to claim their $900 tax payments.
Adrian Raftery, CEO of accountantsRus is urging those taxpayers to act now before the June 30 deadline.
“Time is running out for these slackos. They better start acting quick because e-tax is going to be closing on 31 May as well.”
Raftery expressed his amazement that taxpayers are not rushing in to claim their payments, “I have never known a greater incentive to get your tax in.”
“After the flak that the Government have copped for it, I doubt if it will ever be offered again,” he said.
