The fourth annual NSW Small Business Month has now launched, providing hundreds of free and low-cost activities across NSW and a chance for businesses to reboot and recover.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian noted that this is an opportunity to support small businesses and focus on the future of commerce in NSW.
“Business communities have faced unprecedented challenges in 2020, with drought,
bushfires, floods and now COVID-19,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“NSW Small Business Month is an opportunity to celebrate our small business owners,
their valuable contributions to our local communities and their resilience. We also want
to focus on ways to reboot and look at ways of doing business differently to get ahead.”
The activities include webinars with Google Small Business Experts, ANZ Business Planner and the ATO on starting a small business. Themes explored include financial foundations, future-proofing your business and building your brand on social media.
These activities are tailored towards all business owners – from people who have just started to people who are established or want to exit.
This year, 219 local councils and chambers of commerce and 180 festival partners have collaborated to provide online and COVID-safe face-to-face events for businesses.
Up to $640,000 of funding was made available for councils and chambers of commerce to host COVID-safe events.
Small businesses make up to 97.5 per cent of businesses in NSW. The NSW Small Business Month will highlight some of the initiatives that small businesses have taken up to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, bushfires and drought.
“NSW is home to more than 785,000 small businesses who make a valuable
contribution; they make up 97.5 per cent of businesses in NSW and employ more than
41 per cent of the private sector workforce,” said Minister for Finance and Small Business Damien Tudehope.
The launch event (10am, Thursday 1 October) will be a live webcase with top Government and business experts, including Facebook, NAB and ATO executives.
