Xero and Anthropic have announced a multi-year partnership that brings Claude’s AI directly into Xero.
What’s happening: Xero and Anthropic have announced a multi-year partnership that will bring Claude’s AI directly into Xero and Xero’s financial data into Claude.ai.
Why this matters: The integration will give small businesses and their accountants real-time financial intelligence, automated insights and the ability to act on them without switching between tools.
Most small business owners did not start their business to spend hours reconciling invoices, chasing overdue payments or trying to piece together what their cash flow will look like next month. But that is where a significant portion of their time goes.
Xero and Anthropic are moving to change that. The two companies have announced a multi-year partnership that will bring Claude’s AI reasoning directly into the Xero platform, and Xero’s financial data and tools into Claude.ai.
“Every day, millions of small business owners ask the same questions: Why is cash tight this month? Which invoices are overdue? Can I afford to hire?” said Diya Jolly, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Xero. “To run their business efficiently, small business owners and their accountants and bookkeepers need to be able to answer these questions and act on them in real time whether using Xero or Claude. This partnership delivers on that.”
It is the first time Xero customers will be able to work with their financial data directly inside a major AI platform, and a new way for Claude to power end-to-end financial workflows for small businesses at scale.
What it actually does
The partnership works in two directions. Inside Xero, Claude will power automation through JAX, Xero’s AI superagent, short for Just Ask Xero. JAX will be able to orchestrate financial tasks from start to finish across accounting, payroll and payments. That includes analysing revenue and profit performance, tracking real-time cash flow and identifying unpaid invoices, then suggesting actions for small business owners and their advisors to take.
In the other direction, Xero’s financial data and insights will be accessible inside Claude.ai, allowing users to combine real-time revenue, profit and invoice data with external information such as market trends or business plans. The result is the ability to assess different business scenarios, such as evaluating a year-end financial position, without switching between tools.
Over time, Xero within Claude.ai will also be able to suggest and complete end-to-end actions that users can trigger with a single click.
Jolly described the shift as moving Xero into agentic workflows, where the AI does the heavy lifting rather than simply presenting data for the user to interpret. “By shifting the admin burden to a team of agents orchestrated by JAX, we’re giving our customers time back and providing them with clarity so they can make informed decisions and focus on the future,” she said.
Chris Ciauri, Managing Director of International at Anthropic, framed the partnership in terms of access. “Xero has spent 20 years building the financial platform that millions of small businesses depend on. Claude brings a reasoning layer to that foundation,” he said. “Now, instead of spending hours trying to make sense of their financials on top of everything else it takes to run a business, customers get clear answers and recommended actions in real time. This provides small businesses and their advisors with the kind of financial intelligence that used to require a dedicated analyst or CFO.”
Your data stays yours
For small business owners, handing financial data to an AI platform raises understandable questions about privacy and how that data might be used.
Xero has addressed this directly. In line with its existing responsible data use commitments, financial data shared between Xero and Claude.ai is used solely for the user’s specific session. Proprietary business data is never used to train Claude’s AI models.
That distinction matters. It means the financial details of your business, revenue figures, invoice history, payroll data, are not feeding into a broader model that other users or competitors could indirectly benefit from. The intelligence stays within the session and within your control.
Claude-powered insights within Xero and the integration of Xero into Claude.ai are expected to be available in the coming months. No specific date has been confirmed beyond that timeframe.
As part of the broader deal, Xero’s own engineering teams will also use Claude and Cowork to accelerate their internal product development, suggesting the partnership runs deeper than a single feature rollout.
For the millions of small business owners and their accountants already using Xero, the practical upside is clear: less time manually chasing numbers, more time making decisions based on them.
