I’ve just got back from the opening of Google’s fabulous new Sydney office and it was a wonderful event.
What—or I should say who—I’m left most impressed by however is your Governor General, the charming and might I say stylish, Quentin Bryce. She was guest of honour at the Pyrmont offices and spoke with genuine enthusiasm and excitement about Google’s expansion in Australia.
Although clearly a very ‘proper’ and elegant lady, Her Excellency showed warmth and a sense of humour when she spoke off-speech and said: “I knew it’d be like this. I knew you’d all be cool!” She then asked: “Is anyone here over 30?”
Accompanied by her husband, minders and assistants, she stood out among the typically casual Googlers in their jeans and T-shirts and but didn’t seem at all fazed. I’d just like to know where her fabulous green patent leather shoes are from.
Overall, this was an inspiring event. The office—Australia’s first with a 6-star green rating—demonstrates this super brand’s commitment to Australia. As Ms Bryce said herself: “This spectacular office embodies Google’s aspirations in Australia—make a great contribution to the vibrant Australian life, be a good steward of our earth, and make it fun and exciting for our employees and our Australian users.”
Can’t say fairer than that.
