There has been a 60 percent drop in the number of complaints about telemarketing calls to numbers on the Do Not Call Register, according to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).
ACMA chairman Chris Chapman, said the figures show a significant improvement in compliance by telemarketers.
“This very sizeable drop in complaints indicates that the telemarketing industry is getting the message and changing behavuiours.”
Up to 3.5 million phone numbers have been placed on the register since it began in May 2007.
To assist the industry in further improving its Do Not Call compliance, the ACMA has release a new Do Not Call Register Act 2006 Compliance Guide on its www.donotcall.gov.au website. In addition to this, people who have been placed on the register and are still receiving telemarketing calls, can lodge a complaint on the website.
